July 28 Daily Entry -- Paths

Look at the paths before you, the choices you can make. Follow them to the end. What does each one get you?

If you teach you will have a life of control and rigidity. If you choose art or music you will have a life of beauty. If you write you will have a life of magic.

Are there other paths you haven't thought of? What if you do nothing? What if you follow the wind?

Don Juan sits across the way, loose shirt open to his navel, showing his abs. He decorates himself with a hat, glasses, gold watch, carefully trimmed beard, wide smile. He leans into his girl, focusing all his attention on her. He is casting a spell. Does he know what he's doing? Does she?

Ed in his orange construction vest sits nearby, paper in hand. He also wears a hat, but to different effect. He has lost his job today, or received health news. Suddenly he has come unmoored and is adrift in a sea of possibilities. The world is suddenly so large that he cannot find his place in it. The freedom is unnerving. What will he do with his day?

Everywhere today lone people sit in their thoughts. Here our worlds overlap. We create a shared reality for a moment.

In a city, your reality is never truly yours. It is a group project, always shared, always limited. But consider what you can do with your part.
